Oils, lubricants and additives

As oil circulates through your engine it can pick up deposits. Over time, conventional oils can sometimes form sludge, which can reduce your engine's efficiency and, ultimately, reduce the life of your engine. Fully synthetic motor oils contain fewer impurities compared to conventional motor oils and can better resist the formation of sludge thereby preventing deposits from forming in your engine.

Sludge is a thick, sticky residue that can form inside your engine through a combination of combustion by-products (oil oxidation residue, carbon and water). Water condenses as a result of a hot engine cooling down. The oil mixes with the resulting water and forms the thick sludge that sticks to the engine parts. Frequent cold starts and short trips contribute to this condition, by not allowing the engine oil to heat up enough to vaporize and remove the water. Sludge is detrimental in that it can clog key oil passages such as oil drain-back holes and, in some cases, block the oil pick-up screen on the oil pump causing engine oil starvation (i.e., not enough oil).

Oil Additive products contain detergents, which help suspend sludge in the engine oil, preventing it from accumulating inside your engine.

To meet consumer demand, car manufactures are building cars with smaller engines for greater fuel efficiency but adding turbochargers to boost power. Modern engines run at high temperatures, which can break down conventional oils faster, but today’s turbocharged engines are even more aggressive. The shaft inside a turbocharger can spin upwards of 200,000 revolutions per minute, so it’s critical that your motor oil can get to that shaft and lubricate it properly very quickly. Conventional oils can break down faster under these conditions and leave deposits on turbocharger components, which can lead to failure. Fully synthetic motor oils can protect these components much better than conventional oils, keeping them operating at peak performance and boosting your engine’s power.

We only use fully synthetic oil, and the latest specification, in all our oil changes (unless an engine manufacturer stipulates otherwise) so you can have peace of mind knowing your engine is fully protected.
