What happens if my vehicle fails the MOT test?
If the vehicle fails its MOT, it does not meet legal requirements and must be repaired to comply with MOT Test standards. P Bruno Car Repairs will always give you expert and impartial advice needed to help make a decision towards any necessary or recommended additional work.
Following your successful MOT test you will receive an official VT20 certificate, if your vehicle should require any further recommended work it will also be listed on the VT20.
Records of MOT test results are now held on a secure central database to which all MOT testing stations are connected. The new MOT certificate is your receipt and shows the information that is held on the MOT database at https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status Only the computer record at DVLA can prove a vehicle has a valid MOT.
You can check the MOT status of a vehicle at https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status
Why you need an MOT certificate
It is generally an offence to use on a public road, a vehicle that is over 3-years old that doesn’t have a current test certificate, except when taking it to a test station or bringing it away from a test station after it has failed the MOT test, to a place of repair providing the vehicle has a valid insurance certificate.
Replacing lost or stolen certificates
